A light hearted a cappella quartet that is sure to make you smile!

Tenor - Paul Swanson
Paul’s interest in music started at young age, due to the fact that a piano was in constant use in his home, and influenced by a musically inclined brother (on guitar) and sister (pianist). Paul discovered barbershop in 1974 but in 1976 took a fairly long hiatus from the hobby. During his hiatus Paul became the lead singer in a 60-80s R&B cover band from 2000 to 2005 in the California ‘Bay Area’. Paul re-discovered barbershop by hooking up with the Minneapolis Commodores in 2008 after an engineering employment opportunity brought him to the Twin Cities. In addition to his singing skills, Paul is one of those gifted individuals who can sit down at a keyboard and play by ‘ear’.
Lead - Tony Mason
Tony has been singing Barbershop with the Minneapolis Commodores since 2012. He picked up the guitar at the young age of 8 and you could say that musical talent definitely runs in the family. Music is an integral part of his family life with all five of his kids being musically gifted. Even his wife Debbie- is an accomplished musician, choreographer, and private voice and piano teacher. Tony currently works as a Business Development Manager for Cisco Systems and is actively involved in church and community service. When life gets hectic, Tony turns to music - as it is one of the most therapeutic means of stress relief ever created.

Bass - Ben Wanggaard
Like Tony, Ben has only been a member of the BHS since early 2012. Having grown up in a musical family in Wisconsin, Ben was skilled on the keyboard and singing came naturally. He temporarily put formal singing aside after departing high school but while casually singing to himself at work he caught the attention of a member of the Minneapolis Commodores. This led to an invitation to a rehearsal and the rest is history. Ben is an avid music fan and is very happy to be the bass of Hot Commodity. By day Ben is a junior high social studies teacher and by night he’s either spending time with his wife (Lynnay) and young son (Noah) or perhaps ringing some chords with his fellow Barbershoppers.

Baritone - Dave Speidel  (CONTACT)
David has been a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society for over 39 years. Growing up in a musical family, David always had his eyes set on being an instrumental music teacher. As fate would have it, his career took a minor detour in college - currently working as an Audiologist with a major medical device company in Eden Prairie, MN. While in college, Barbershop singing replaced the instrumental focus, and by age 23 his years of musical experience were put into practice by directing the Winnebago-Land chorus. David has held musical leadership roles in other Barbershop Choruses, has extensive quartet experience, and currently serves as and Baritone section leader and associate director with the Minneapolis Commodores Barbershop Chorus.
